Affiliate Marketing

There are many things to consider when you try to
sell affiliate products from your website. Of course you have the normal considerations of making sure that
you are promoting products and programs that you can make high commissions on. You also know that you cannot
mismatch your affiliate programs to your web site. In other words, you cannot be promoting an internet marketing
course on a web site that is designed or has a niche for golfing. These are just common sense things that you know
that you have to do in order to promote your affiliate sites. However, there are a couple of overlooked ideas that
need to be talked about so that you will be able to fine tune your affiliate program or product web site to what
you are selling.
One of the things that most people do not consider when selling affiliate products
or programs from their website, is that you should not try to sell too many products from your site. Let us imagine
for a second, that you go to a site about internet marketing and you get to the main page. You are immediately
inundated with 25 different Internet Marketing courses, e-books, subscription sites and so on. It is just way too
confusing and a person will probably get the idea that you are trying to do nothing more than sell them something.
You heard me right. Do not try to make your site look like it is selling something. Try to make your web site and
the articles that it contains look like you are providing a lot of information that is important or have some sort
of service that is of value to people.
There are a number of reasons for this; first of all, people like to feel that
they are being helped. When a person goes into a shoe store they are looking for a pair of shoes, a sales person
helps them find shoes. It is a different game on the internet. A large percentage of the people that go to the web
sites are looking for information. Remember, we are usually talking about the information highway when we talk
about the Internet. So, you need to have articles, downloadable free e-books and inexpensive programs that
people can use. At the very least, you need to have good web site content or articles. This is absolutely paramount
and you cannot do without it. There are a number of reasons for this; one of them is the fact the search engine
Google is now raking web sites for their content. You have much better chance of ranking higher in the search
engines with good content. But the main thing to remember is that you must have something for people to read that
is high quality and can actually help them.

One other thing that is extremely important to do when you put together your
affiliate web site is you need a method of collecting e-mail addresses. In other words you need to start building a
list. I have actually had millionaires tell me that their whole entire business is fueled mostly by the lists they
have maintained and generated over the years. So right off the bat, you need to have a way to collect e-mail
addresses. The way you do that is very basic and simple. What you need to do is to go to an online e-mail service.
There are all kinds of high quality e-mail services on the Internet and they will provide you with the code to
place on your web site so that you can start collecting e-mail addresses. I don't want to go into great depth on
this because it would take a whole entire article, but bear in mind you need to start collecting e-mail addresses
and if you can, regular home addresses if you can also. Once you have collected some addresses you can start
sending articles, newsletters and information about your website. If the articles or newsletters that you send
people are of good value, they will come back to your site and read your articles and even buy some of the
affiliate products that you are promoting. As a matter of fact, after a while you can start promoting (very subtly
though don't try to sell products to your e-mail too much) affiliate products through your newsletter or e-mails
that you send out.
One other thing I should tell you about e-mailing people is that it is literally
disastrous for a business to send e-mail messages to people that did not ask for them. The only time you
should ever send somebody an email message or newsletter is if they signed up on your web site to get an
e-mail message. The little box or code that you put on your web site should say something about the fact that they
are signing up for an e-mail newsletter or more information that will be sent to them by e-mail. Once the person
has signed up, you can send an e-mail message or newsletters until they tell you to stop. But you should remember
never to send unsolicited e-mail messages to anyone; it will only hurt your business.
